BINTULU – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia continues to strengthen its position in the global energy sector through strategic cooperation with several major producing countries to ensure long-term supply sustainability.
The Prime Minister said an open and neutral diplomatic approach has enabled Malaysia to build good relations with various world powers to safeguard national interests, especially in terms of energy security.
According to him, as a result of his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his recent visit to that country, Malaysia has secured a guarantee of continuous energy supply to meet domestic needs as well as energy export commitments to several countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
“President Putin in his meeting with me gave his assurance that he would establish long-term arrangements and agreements to ensure continuous energy supply to Malaysia.
“This guarantee is important because the country’s energy needs are not only for the domestic market, but also to fulfil long-term commitments with several other countries,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the Bintulu Port Status Transfer Ceremony from Federal Port to State Port here today.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said the developments following the visit to Russia are highly significant at a time when the global energy market continues to face uncertainty due to geopolitical conflicts and global economic challenges.
At the same time, Anwar also informed that Malaysia has recorded a significant achievement in gaining access to several strategic gas blocks in Turkmenistan through cooperation with the national petroleum company, PETRONAS.
“These developments have the potential to strengthen Malaysia’s foothold in the natural gas sector and open up new opportunities for the country’s energy industry at the international level.
“This success is the result of the country’s political stability, clear government policies, and the international community’s confidence in Malaysia’s capability as a trusted strategic partner in the global energy sector,” he said.
