PETALING JAYA – A petrol station worker’s action in stopping a driver believed to be a foreigner from pumping subsidised RON95 petrol has drawn widespread praise after a recording of the incident went viral on social media.
In a video uploaded on TikTok by @Zachary, a car with a Singapore registration number was seen pumping RON95 petrol at a petrol station believed to be in the Taman Sri Andalas area, Klang.
In the recording, a worker was seen approaching the pump and stopping a male driver from continuing to pump fuel.
The post attracted netizens’ attention, with most praising the worker’s firmness in complying with the regulations on the sale of subsidised petrol to foreign vehicles.
“This is the kind of worker we want. Not just waiting for a salary, but importantly understanding the country’s laws and being responsible because the work he does is part of the trust placed in him by the nation,” praised @HaHa.
Another social media user, @Jejakasempoi, said the worker deserves recognition for his firm and honest attitude while carrying out his duties.
“Workers like this deserve to be promoted to petrol station supervisor because they are trustworthy, firm and honest. The payment counter staff also need to be more vigilant so that such incidents can be detected earlier,” he said.
Meanwhile, there were also social media users who mocked the actions of some parties who questioned the use of RON95 petrol by luxury vehicle owners.
“Driving an Audi, but pumping yellow (RON95) fuel. Better just sell it and buy another car,” said one netizen.
