Political Stability, Peace Key To Foreign Countries’ Confidence In Malaysia – Anwar

BATU KAWAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s (PETRONAS) success in securing one of the world’s largest gas wells in Turkmenistan as clear evidence of foreign countries’ confidence in Malaysia’s capabilities, the country’s political stability, and the professionalism of local companies.

He, who is also Finance Minister, said the agreement signed with the Turkmenistan government during his visit to the country allows Malaysia, through PETRONAS, to be involved in the development of major gas fields in a country that possesses among the largest gas reserves in the world.

“This signifies foreign countries’ confidence in us, the peace we have achieved, the unity of the people, and the dedication of companies like PETRONAS, the diligence of working professionals, and the commitment to develop the nation.

“This should give us (Malaysia) the impetus that opportunities are wide open, if we focus on uplifting our dignity with discipline, dedication, and a positive approach to development,” said Anwar when officiating the opening of MKS Instruments Malaysia Sdn Bhd at Bandar Cassia Technology Park here today.

The agreement was established following his official visit to Turkmenistan for two days from 18 to 19 June at the invitation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, which also reciprocated Berdimuhamedov’s official visit to Malaysia in December 2024.

The visit was Anwar’s first official visit to Turkmenistan and the fifth by a Malaysian Prime Minister.

PETRONAS began operations in Turkmenistan in 1996 and has since grown into a lasting partnership between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Anwar also welcomed the presence and expansion of operations of global technology companies in Malaysia, particularly in Penang, which he said is increasingly recognised as a major hub for the semiconductor and high-technology industry in the region.
