SEREMBAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on people of all races to defend the spirit of consensus and not allow racial sentiments played up by certain leaders to weaken the nation’s strength.

He said Malaysia’s diversity is an absolute strength if bound by a solid spirit of consensus.

“… he (the leader) asks us to hate the Chinese, the Chinese to hate the Indians, the Indians to hate the Malays… so we must rise up, everyone must rise up.

“Today, Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans are all coming together in consensus and cooperation, rising as one force,” he said in his speech at the dinner of the Malaysian Five Generations Organisation (PLG) gathering here.

More than 1,000 PLG members attended the event. Also present was Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

Therefore, Anwar wants the people, especially the youth, to step forward and actively involve themselves in the movement for change to build a better future for Malaysia based on the spirit of consensus and unity among people of all races.

He said that although Malaysia is actively pursuing global advancements such as artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation, aspects of values and personal morality remain a priority.

Meanwhile, Anwar, who had just concluded a working visit to Kazan and Turkmenistan, said he is working to secure the nation’s future, particularly in terms of oil and energy supply security.

“I want to take care of the country for the sake of the future. I am no longer young, but I want to leave behind a safe and secure country so that our children will not be burdened with the problem of running out of oil or gas,” he said.

The Prime Minister led the Malaysian delegation to the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan on June 17 and 18, before proceeding to Turkmenistan at the invitation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
