Kulim River Basin Overflows, 25 Victims Evacuated To Temporary Relief Centre

KULIM: A flash flood struck this district yesterday, with one temporary relief centre (PPS) opened to accommodate 25 victims.

Kulim District Civil Defence Officer, Captain (PA) Amirul Aliff Ahmad, said the PPS at Kampung Sungai Seluang Bawah was opened at 11 pm last night, with all victims comprising eight affected families.

They involved flood victims from Kampung Seluang Bawah in Mukim Seluang after two rivers, namely Sungai Kilang Lama and Sungai Kulim, overflowed.

“Heavy rain began at 3 pm yesterday and persisted for three hours, causing overflow at the Kulim River Basin before evacuation operations were mobilised.

“As of now, the weather is clear, but the victims are still being housed at the relief centre,” he said.
