TMJ urges a thorough investigation into the case of an escort beating a disabled driver

PETALING JAYA: Acting Sultan of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail urged the authorities to carry out a thorough investigation into the incident of a security escort who allegedly hit an e-hailing driver who is also a disabled person last Tuesday.

Berita Harian reports, Tunku Mahkota Ismail said, never allow any illegal actions or threats to take place.

“Referring to the incident that occurred at the St Regis Hotel Kuala Lumpur on May 28, I was informed the following day and immediately urged the security escort team of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to cooperate with the investigation.

“I do not condone any illegal actions or threats. I urge the authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident of an escort police officer who allegedly committed dangerous acts.

“I hope the authorities will take action in accordance with the law and give justice to the victims,” ​​he said in a statement today.

Last Wednesday, the disabled e-hailing vehicle driver who claimed to have beaten a bodyguard escorting a dignitary in the lobby of a hotel in the nation’s capital on Tuesday, withdrew his report on the same day.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, in a statement last Wednesday reportedly said that the disabled driver had made a second police report to withdraw the first police report.

Earlier, the media reported that the disabled e-hailing driver filed a police report after claiming to have been beaten by an escort while waiting for passengers at a hotel near KL Sentral here.

The 46-year-old driver claimed to have been punched in the head when asked to move his vehicle. Following that, the victim then made a police report after receiving treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL).

When making a report, his cell phone and car dashboard camera believed to have recorded the incident were confiscated by the police.

In the meantime, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, urged all parties to allow the authorities to conduct an investigation.

“I am also aware that there is a movement to drag the royal institution by using this incident, but associating the actions of external security personnel with myself and the entire royal institution is inappropriate,” he said.
