KUALA LUMPUR: A police station chief in Kuala Lumpur is under investigation following allegations of corruption and abuse of power, according to city police authorities.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Fadil Marsus confirmed that an internal probe has been launched to determine the validity of the claims involving the officer.
He said both the district police chief and the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department have been directed to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
“The allegations are currently being examined, and the officer concerned has already had his statement recorded,” he said during a media briefing after officiating the Traffic Compliance Advocacy Programme at SMK Alam Damai on Friday.
Despite the ongoing investigation, the officer remains on active duty pending the outcome of the inquiry.
Authorities have assured the public that firm action will be taken should evidence of misconduct be uncovered.
The investigation follows allegations that recently surfaced on social media, where screenshots circulated online accusing a police inspector of directing subordinates to collect so-called “protection money” from gambling outlets and massage parlours operating in the Wangsa Maju area.
The officer was also alleged to have instructed personnel to extort money from foreign nationals and to have brought guest relations officers (GROs) into the police station.
Police have stressed that the allegations are still under investigation and urged the public not to speculate while the inquiry is ongoing.
The case has drawn significant public attention, with many calling for transparency and accountability as authorities work to determine whether any disciplinary or legal violations have occurred.
