KOTA KINABALU: The state Customs Department says that drug gangs are still using planes and courier services to bring illegal goods into Sabah.
Customs officials made their most recent seizure on May 11 at the Tawau International Airport and in a building. They took drugs worth more than RM3 million and weighing more than 61 kg.

A news conference held here on May 20 said, “There were three raids in this operation. The largest seizure was an RM2.86 million bust of methamphetamine weighing over 57.27 kg at the Tawau Airport.”

He said that there was a bust at 1:15 p.m. because security guards at the aviation post saw strange things in four pieces of luggage.

“The bags were physically checked, and 142 plastic bags filled with what was thought to be meth were found inside,” Ahmad said.

He said that the gang could have used a transport service to hide the drugs in plastic bags before putting them in luggage to be sent to Tawau.

A package with more than 4.6 kg of meth worth about RM233,900 was also taken by customs officials from the Kota Kinabalu airpost warehouse around 1pm.
