JOHOR BARU: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar received a courtesy visit from Dave Williams, the grandson of legendary animator William Hanna, during a meeting at Istana Pasir Pelangi.

The visit, shared via the King’s official Facebook page, highlighted a unique cultural connection between Malaysia and one of the world’s most iconic animated franchises. William Hanna is widely known as the co-creator of beloved classic cartoons such as The Flintstones and The Jetsons.

Dave Williams, who currently serves as an economic counselor at the United States Embassy in Malaysia, expressed his appreciation to His Majesty for the opportunity to visit the royal palace.

During his time in Johor, Williams also toured the uniquely themed Istana Flintstones in Mersing on April 30, a site inspired by the prehistoric world depicted in The Flintstones.

He conveyed his gratitude for the warm reception and described the visit as a meaningful experience that bridges animation history with Malaysia’s cultural landmarks.

The meeting reflects the enduring global influence of classic animation and its unexpected ties to destinations in Malaysia.
