Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has assured that the ongoing political crisis in Negeri Sembilan will not impact the stability or working relationship of the federal government.

Speaking after attending the Asia Pacific Online Safety Dialogue 2026, Fahmi said the situation is confined to the state level, involving dynamics between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN), and does not interfere with the administration of the Kerajaan Perpaduan at the national level.

“This situation does not weaken the government. It is a unique case specific to Negeri Sembilan. At the federal level, the unity government remains intact, and leadership will determine the next course of action,” he said.

Fahmi also noted that the upcoming Pakatan Harapan convention, scheduled for May 17 in Johor, will serve as an important platform for the coalition to discuss its future direction.

The political tension in Negeri Sembilan escalated after 14 state assemblymen from the United Malays National Organisation (Umno) and BN publicly withdrew support for Mentri Besar Aminuddin Harun. The move was formally communicated to the State Assembly speaker and secretary.

Despite this, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim clarified that Aminuddin will continue to carry out his duties as Mentri Besar for now, following guidance from the state ruler, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.

Fahmi emphasized that the federal government respects the constitutional process and the role of the monarchy and will allow the situation in the state to be resolved through proper legal and institutional channels.
