KOTA BARU, April 18: A major drug trafficking attempt was foiled in Pasir Mas after the General Operations Force (GOF) seized approximately 5 kilograms of suspected cannabis valued at RM400,000 and arrested two individuals, including a foreign national.

The operation took place around 10:30am on Saturday at the Serongga Interception Checkpoint, where officers stopped a grey vehicle driven by a স্থানীয় Malaysian man accompanied by a Sri Lankan passenger.

According to GOF Southeast Brigade Commander Ahmad Radzi Hussain, initial inspections revealed that the foreign passenger’s social visit pass had expired. Both suspects were subsequently detained and taken to a tactical base in Taman Bakti for further investigation.

“A detailed search of the vehicle uncovered a black bag in the rear section containing five compressed packages believed to be cannabis buds, weighing about 5kg,” he said in an official statement.

Preliminary findings indicate that the seized drugs could fetch up to RM80,000 per kilogram on the illicit market, highlighting the scale of the operation.

The suspects, aged in their 20s and 50s, are currently in custody. Authorities have handed over the case to relevant agencies for further action under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries severe penalties upon conviction.

The successful interception underscores ongoing efforts by Malaysian security forces to curb cross-border drug trafficking and maintain national security.
