11,713 SPM 2023 candidates obtained excellent results with all A’s
PUTRAJAYA: A total of 11,713 out of 373,525 candidates for the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) 2023 obtained excellent results of grades A, A and A- in all subjects.
Director General of Education, Azman Adnan said, overall, the achievement of SPM candidates last year was better when they recorded a National Average Grade (GPN) of 4.60 compared to 4.74 the previous year.
Sinar Harian reports, a smaller GPN value indicates a better candidate’s achievement.
“A total of 226,358 candidates or 60.6 percent of the 373,525 new candidates have passed at least all the subjects taken.
“In addition, a total of 66 subjects recorded improved performance, 25 (subjects) decreased and four showed stable performance,” he said when announcing the analysis of the SPM 2023 examination results.
Meanwhile, he also informed that a total of 83,112 candidates (22.3 percent) got at least grade C for all subjects while 131,489 candidates (35.2 percent) got at least grade E.
He said that the performance of all the core subjects in the SPM 2023 examination Malay, English, Islamic Education, Moral Education, History, Mathematics and Science showed improvement.
“Moral Education achieved the highest performance improvement of 0.2 while Malay Language was the best with an Average Subject Grade (GPMP) of 3.66 points.
“For elective subjects, 50 subjects showed an increase in performance, 19 decreased and one subject maintained performance as in 2022.
“All four STEM elective subjects (Pure Science and Additional Mathematics) showed improvement with Physics recording the highest performance of 0.22 points and the best in the group with GPMP 4.15 points,” he explained.
The SPM 2023 examination took place from 5 December 2023 to 7 March, with 129,635 staff having been appointed to ensure the smooth management and operation of the examination.
