Iran Condemns US-Israeli Attacks on Civilians, Reports Hundreds Injured and Killed, Including Children and Healthcare Workers
TEHRAN: Iran’s Health Ministry has condemned the ongoing US-Israeli aggression targeting civilians, including children and healthcare personnel, calling on the international community to take action against what it described as “barbaric attacks.”
A ministry spokesman, Hossein Kermanpour, reported that as of Friday noon, more than 2,000 people have been injured, with over 625 surgeries already performed. Among the injured, 13 percent are women, while 552 are under 18 years old and 54 are under five. Injuries primarily include head trauma, severe burns, amputations, and fractures.
The youngest victim was a four-month-old baby girl in Pol-e Dokhtar, and the oldest was a 94-year-old woman from Saqqez. The attacks have so far killed 198 women, with 200 deaths under 18 years and six under five. The youngest casualty was an eight-month-old baby from Robat Karim, and the oldest was 88 years old from Tehran.
Kermanpour highlighted the heavy impact on Iran’s healthcare system, noting that eight healthcare workers have been killed and 30 others injured. 11 hospitals, eight emergency medical bases, and 12 ambulances have been damaged, including an emergency medical base in Zibashahr near Shiraz, where three emergency medical technicians were killed while providing lifesaving care.
“The attacks on medical personnel and facilities undermine healthcare protection and raise serious humanitarian concerns,” Kermanpour said. He stressed that targeting civilians and hospitals violates international humanitarian norms and called on the global community to break its silence on these crimes.
The latest aggression began on February 28, eight months after previous unprovoked strikes on Iran by US and Israeli forces. The attacks came as Tehran and Washington had completed three rounds of indirect negotiations in Muscat and Geneva and were planning technical talks in Vienna, Austria.
Iran has responded swiftly with missile and drone attacks on Israeli-occupied territories and US bases in the region, as tensions continue to escalate.
