Malaysian Media Council Launches Official Complaint Mechanism to Strengthen Self-Regulation

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 23: The Ministry of Communications has welcomed the launch of an official complaints mechanism by the Malaysian Media Council (MMM), describing it as a professional and institutional platform to address issues related to journalistic practices and media ethics in the country.

Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the fully operational complaints system marks a significant step towards responsible self-regulation within the media industry, ensuring compliance with high ethical standards.

“I congratulate and welcome the introduction of the complaints mechanism by the Malaysian Media Council, which is now fully operational,” he said during his weekly press briefing in Putrajaya on Friday.

The mechanism, announced by MMM yesterday, allows complaints to be submitted via email at aduan@majlismedia.my or through the official website at https://majlismedia.my/complaints/. It is managed by the Code of Conduct and Complaints Committee, which functions as an independent, transparent, and non-punitive platform, in line with the principles of media self-regulation.

Fahmi, who is also the Government MADANI Spokesperson, added that the Friends of Ministry (FOM) for each ministry will be restructured following the appointment of several MADANI-supporting MPs to administrative roles.

He also noted that the appointment of the secretary for the BBC (Government Supporters Club) will be discussed, following the designation of Datuk Seri Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, MP for Sekijang, as the new BBC chairperson.

“The composition of the Special Select Committee will also be reviewed and managed through processes in the House of Representatives,” he said.

Dr. Zaliha’s appointment as the new BBC Chairperson was announced yesterday by Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr. Ramli Mohd Nor. She succeeds Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah, MP for Paya Besar, who currently serves as Deputy Minister of Economy.
