KUALA LUMPUR: The National Registration Department (NRD) has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that a foreigner misused a deceased Malaysian’s MyKad number to make a claim through the government’s eGumis unclaimed money portal.
In a statement issued on Friday, the NRD said investigations found no evidence of identity misuse, unauthorized issuance of identification documents, or involvement of any foreign nationals, as claimed online.
According to the department, checks revealed that the two individuals named in the viral social media post are both Malaysian citizens, each registered under different and valid MyKad numbers. The post had shown two separate names appearing on the eGumis portal, which is managed by the Unclaimed Money Management Division under the Accountant General’s Department.
The NRD clarified that the late individual’s MyKad number remains valid and that his personal details are correctly recorded in the national registration system. The department added that the deceased’s family may seek official confirmation at any NRD office if required.
Further verification confirmed that no irregularities were detected, and the complainant has been advised to liaise directly with the Unclaimed Money Management Division to obtain clarification or submit claims in accordance with established procedures.
“The public is advised not to speculate, make unfounded accusations, or disseminate unverified information, as such actions may cause unnecessary confusion and public anxiety,” the NRD said.
The department reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Malaysia’s identity management system and urged the public to rely on official channels for accurate information.
