Lorry Driver Burnt to Death After Vehicle Catches Fire on North-South Expressway

IPOH (Nov 12): A 64-year-old lorry driver was killed after his container lorry lost control and caught fire along KM254 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound early Wednesday morning.

According to the Perak Fire and Rescue Department, an emergency call was received at 3.19am, prompting immediate deployment of firefighting teams from the Kuala Kangsar and Meru Raya fire stations.

“The incident involved a refrigerated container lorry transporting vegetables, which is believed to have veered off the road before bursting into flames,” said Acting Deputy Director of Operations Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah in a statement.

She confirmed that the driver was burnt to death and pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters worked to fully extinguish the blaze, which had completely engulfed the vehicle. The operation was officially concluded at 5.07am.

The victim’s remains have been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Authorities are still determining the cause of the accident, while PLUS officials have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially during early morning hours when visibility and road conditions may be challenging.
