UTAR and Acmar Group Join Forces for Bandar Baru Klang Master Plan Project

KLANG, Nov 10: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and Acmar Group have entered into a strategic collaboration to advance urban development in Klang through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) at the Wyndham Acmar Hotel on Monday.

The ceremony was witnessed by Klang mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Husain and Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) Public HEI Governance Division director Izamael Zamzuri Ismail, who represented the ministry’s director-general, Datuk Prof Dr Azlinda Azman.

The event also marked the launch of the Bandar Baru Klang Catalytic Development Master Plan International Design Competition 2025/2026, a global initiative co-supported by the Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium (Brauic), the Klang Royal City Council, and the Higher Education Ministry.

The MoU establishes a framework for collaboration in urban planning, academic research, student development, and community engagement, while the MoA focuses on the implementation of the master plan.

In his address, Datuk Abd Hamid Husain said the initiative goes beyond a design competition, serving as a platform for collaboration among architects, designers, and urban thinkers from over 100 universities across 40 countries.

“As the royal city, Klang has a rich heritage and a strategic position. The transformation of Bandar Baru Klang into a sustainable, inclusive and internationally recognised area aligns with our vision to develop a city distinguished by its planning, identity, and global appeal,” Abd Hamid said.

The partnership between UTAR and Acmar Group is expected to play a key role in shaping the future landscape of Klang, reinforcing its status as a modern, innovative, and globally connected city.
