Malaysia Takes Bold Step Toward Climate Transparency with AI-Driven Carbon Intelligence Partnership

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5: Malaysia is strengthening its national climate transparency efforts through a new partnership between Sastena Technology Sdn Bhd and FRIM Incorporated Sdn Bhd (FRIM Inc) to advance the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in carbon intelligence.

The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the Cradle LIVE! Startup ASEAN Summit 2025, organized by Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd (Cradle), the focal agency for early-stage startups under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).

The collaboration combines AI innovation and forest science expertise to develop systems for autonomous forest carbon assessment, monitoring, and transparent reporting.

Sastena Technology chief executive officer Ahmad Jazzri Jamaludin said the partnership would enable Malaysia to lead with transparent, science-based carbon intelligence powered by AI.

“We believe credibility drives value in carbon markets. This collaboration enables Malaysia to lead with transparent, science-backed carbon intelligence,” he said in a statement today.

FRIM Inc. chief executive officer Faizal Ramli said the initiative will leverage decades of forest research to support transparent pathways for climate reporting and carbon stewardship.

The MoU was witnessed by representatives from the Malaysia Forest Fund (MFF) and Cradle, signifying confidence in locally developed climate intelligence solutions that enhance Malaysia’s market readiness.

Cradle group chief executive officer Norman Matthieu Vanhaecke said the partnership reflected the maturity of Malaysia’s innovation ecosystem, where startups, research institutions, and public agencies collaborate to deliver science-based, technology-driven solutions.

“Cradle remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen Malaysia’s leadership in sustainable innovation,” he said.

Sastena and FRIM Inc. will also explore alignment with MFF to support Malaysia’s carbon governance, transparency, and readiness for future climate frameworks.
