Police Take Proactive Measures to Safeguard National Security During 47th ASEAN Summit, Says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 22): The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have implemented a series of proactive measures to ensure maximum security and public safety throughout the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit, said Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail.

In a statement on Wednesday, the IGP said these measures include early intelligence gathering, continuous monitoring, and the deployment of specialized police teams at key and strategic locations.

He said the initiative demonstrates the police force’s strong commitment to maintaining national security, public order, and Malaysia’s positive image on the international stage.

“We urge members of the public to abide by the law during the summit, act responsibly, and help maintain harmony, order, and mutual respect to set a positive example for visiting delegates,” he said.

Mohd Khalid also reminded the public not to spread false information or engage in any activity that could be deemed provocative or cause public unrest.

“We will take necessary action under the law to maintain peace and national stability,” he warned.

The IGP further advised citizens and motorists to plan their travel routes carefully during the summit period, particularly around Kuala Lumpur city center and Putrajaya, where traffic control and road closures are in effect.

“We encourage road users to make use of navigation apps, plan their journeys in advance, and fully cooperate with police officers on duty,” he said.
“Stay alert and report any suspicious activities immediately  the vigilance and awareness of citizens are key pillars of national security.”

The 47th ASEAN Summit is expected to draw regional leaders, ministers, and delegates from across Southeast Asia, making security and coordination a top national priority.
