KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2: A pro-Palestine gathering outside the United States Embassy in Kuala Lumpur turned tense on Thursday, leading to the arrest of two men after a brief scuffle.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said the peaceful assembly began around noon but escalated when several individuals attempted to block traffic along Jalan Tun Razak, directly in front of the embassy.

“In the ensuing commotion, a policeman sustained an injury to his mouth after being elbowed while trying to maintain order and security,” he said in a statement.

Police detained two local men, aged 23 and 32, for obstructing officers from carrying out their duties. Both are being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which deals with obstructing public servants.

“A police report has been lodged and an investigation paper opened. The case remains under investigation,” Comm Fadil added.

He reminded organizers and participants to comply with existing laws and regulations when exercising their constitutional right to assemble peacefully.

“While the police respect the public’s freedom to gather peacefully, we will not hesitate to take firm action against any individual or group who violates the law,” he said.

The public has been urged to come forward with any related information by contacting the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or visiting the nearest police station.
