KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22: Malaysia and South Korea reaffirmed their commitment to deepening defense cooperation at the 3rd Malaysia and Korea Defense Industry Seminar 2025, held in Kuala Lumpur under the theme “Strategic Convergence, Technology, Defense, and Geopolitics in the Malaysia and Korea Partnership.”

The seminar highlighted the evolving security landscape, where threats are no longer confined to land, sea, and air but also extend to cyber, space, and the electromagnetic domain. Malaysia underscored the importance of South Korea as a vital partner in developing forward-looking and practical defense collaboration.
Malaysia is currently strengthening its defense industry through innovation, technological advancement, and reduced external dependency. The National Defence Industry Policy (NDIP) will serve as the driving force in building a resilient and self-reliant domestic defense sector.
In this context, technology transfer, joint development, and training with South Korea were emphasized as key to reinforcing Malaysia’s defense ecosystem. Officials noted that the partnership goes beyond asset procurement, representing a long-term strategic collaboration aimed at fostering a sustainable, innovative, and competitive defense industry.
