KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 (VoM): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) are no longer just visions of the future but realities being pioneered collectively. He said the development of smart cities, built on the principles of MADANI, must serve as a vehicle to empower people, expand access to opportunities, and ensure that every citizen shares in the benefits of technological progress.

However, Anwar underscored that a truly smart city cannot rely on technology alone. Instead, it must be an inclusive, sustainable, and culturally rich living space.

Quoting the renowned Muslim scholar Ibn Khaldun in his Muqaddimah, the prime minister noted that cities have always been the center and foundation of civilization. He also drew on the words of American novelist Mark Twain, who warned that a city should not become a “concrete jungle devoid of culture.”

“Therefore, we must build cities that are technologically advanced yet firmly rooted in identity, values, and cultural heritage,” Anwar said in his speech.

He emphasized that the effort to develop Kota MADANI and Smart City Kuala Lumpur reflects Malaysia’s determination to compete in the fields of economy and innovation, while at the same time upholding social justice, environmental sustainability, and national dignity.
