ADEN, Sept 16 (VoM): Israel carried out airstrikes on Yemen’s Red Sea port of Hodeidah on Tuesday, targeting what it described as military infrastructure used by the Iran-aligned Houthi movement.
The Houthis, who control many of Yemen’s population centers, have repeatedly attacked vessels in the Red Sea, saying their operations are acts of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
According to Al Masirah TV, a Houthi-affiliated channel, the latest attack involved 12 Israeli strikes on the port’s docks. Two sources at the site told Reuters that three docks—previously restored after earlier strikes were hit, while residents reported the bombardment lasted around 10 minutes.
The strike followed an Israeli evacuation order for the port earlier in the day and came just weeks after an August assault that killed senior Houthi officials.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned in a post on X that the Houthis would “continue to suffer blows and pay painful prices for any attempt to attack the State of Israel.”
The Houthis have previously launched missiles toward Israel, most of which were intercepted. On Tuesday, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed their air defenses had forced Israeli warplanes away, though he provided no evidence.
In its statement, the Israeli military said only that it struck “infrastructure” at the port. “The Hodeidah Port is used by the Houthi terrorist regime for the transfer of weapons supplied by the Iranian regime in order to execute attacks against the State of Israel and its allies,” it said.
