KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has pledged that the investigation into the recent assault on the son of former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli will be conducted transparently and thoroughly.
Speaking during the Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today, Anwar described the incident as a worrying reflection of an unhealthy culture taking root in the country, stressing the need for firm action to curb such behavior.
“It is deeply troubling that we are seeing an extreme culture in our society, starting from bullying, leading to deaths, and now an attack on the son of the Pandan MP,” he said.
“I have contacted Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail to ensure the investigation is carried out meticulously and transparently. I guarantee they will act swiftly, decisively, and with integrity, not only to take action against the perpetrators but also to put a stop to this harmful culture,” Anwar added.
Earlier, Balik Pulau MP Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik urged the authorities to conduct a detailed probe and bring those responsible to justice.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed yesterday that the attack took place at a shopping mall.
In a statement, Rafizi said his 12-year-old son was dragged by a man and injected with a syringe while heading to a car to leave the location.
“Checks revealed that two men on a motorcycle had been tailing my wife’s car. In my view, the attack was premeditated.
“The perpetrators wore all-black clothing and full-face helmets,” he said.
The victim was later taken to Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Hospital for further treatment.
