676 foreign nationals detained in Kuala Selangor raid
KUALA SELANGOR: Police have detained 676 foreign nationals in Ijok, Bestari Jaya, today. The detainees include 665 men and 11 women.
The operation was carried out by 277 officers from the Kuala Selangor district police headquarters, running from 4:30 p.m. yesterday until 2:30 a.m. today.
Acting district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Ambia Nordin explained that the raid was prompted by local residents’ complaints about the high number of foreign nationals in the area.
The operation followed a month-long investigation by the Special Branch.
“Most of those detained are employed in the construction industry, as grocery store workers, factory employees, and small-scale illegal vendors,” Ambia said.
The detained individuals, primarily from Bangladesh and Myanmar, are mostly in their 30s and 40s. They have been taken to the district police headquarters for processing.
