BATU PAHAT: A 41-year-old woman was found dead in a rented house in Taman Damai here early Friday (Jan 30), while her boyfriend was discovered critically injured at the scene.
Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said police were alerted after the victim’s family reported that they had been unable to contact her for the past three days.
“At about 12.30am, a team from the Batu Pahat district police headquarters, accompanied by the victim’s family and the owner of the rented house, forced entry into the premises as the door was locked from the inside,” he said.
Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department assisted police in gaining access to the house.
Upon entering one of the rooms, police found the woman and a 44-year-old local man lying side by side on a bed. A medical officer from Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail later confirmed that the woman had died, while the man was in critical condition and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
ACP Shahrulanuar said preliminary investigations indicated that the man, believed to be the victim’s boyfriend, is suspected of killing the woman before injuring himself. The motive behind the incident has yet to be determined.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days until Feb 5 to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
