LONDON, July 15— Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, visited Aisha Buhari and the children of the late President Muhammadu Buhari in London on Monday, offering condolences on behalf of the Federal Government following the former leader’s death.

The visit came as part of a high-level Nigerian delegation led by the vice president to facilitate the return of Buhari’s remains to Nigeria for burial. Images from the visit circulating on social media show an emotional gathering, with Vice President Shettima comforting the grieving family in their time of loss.

Former First Lady Aisha Buhari and her children were seen in mourning as they received the delegation. The visit reflects the national significance of Buhari’s passing, as well as the Federal Government’s support for the family during this difficult time.

According to DAILY POST, Buhari died on Sunday in London while receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness. The former president had long battled health issues during his tenure, spending a total of over 225 days outside Nigeria on medical trips. His longest stay was in 2017, when he spent 104 days in London for treatment.

Buhari, who previously served as Nigeria’s military Head of State in the 1980s, later returned to power as a democratically elected president, leading Africa’s most populous nation from 2015 to 2023.

The late president’s remains are expected to be flown back to Nigeria on Tuesday, with burial scheduled the same day in Daura, his hometown in Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites.

Shettima and the government delegation will accompany the body to Nigeria as the nation prepares for a formal state farewell to one of its most prominent and controversial leaders.
