Using JIM Logo on Vehicle: Pakistani Man Arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) arrested a Pakistani national following the viral spread on social media of a vehicle illegally using the department’s official logo.

JIM Director-General, Datuk Zakaria Shaaban in a statement informed that the arrest was made through a Special Operation conducted on August 9 around Setapak and Jalan Kuching, here.

The operation was launched after the department detected a Toyota Hilux vehicle with registration number VLH8773 displaying the JIM logo and equipped with directional lights, believed to be driven by a foreign national.

“Further inspection at the premises involved also found an Indonesian woman who was found to have overstayed in this country.

“In addition, two passports belonging to Indonesian nationals believed to belong to other individuals were also found in the possession of the Pakistani man concerned,” he said.

According to him, the man was arrested for suspected committing an offence under Section 12(1)(f) of the Passport Act 1966 as well as the Immigration Act 1959/63, while the Indonesian woman was arrested under Section 15(1)(c) of the same act.

In the operation, JIM also arrested eight other individuals comprising four Bangladeshi nationals, three Pakistani nationals and one Indian national believed to be workers at a vehicle wash premises.

All of them were arrested for suspected committing an offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

JIM stressed that it will continue to intensify enforcement to combat the misuse of the department’s identity as well as the presence of unauthorised foreign nationals in this country.
