As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to enhance openness and global communication, the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA), via Nusuk Palatform has unveiled the “Umrah for Children” program.

This initiative supports the goals of achieving the target of 30 million Umrah Performers within Saudi Vision 2030, which focuses on diversifying the economy and promoting the tourism sector, with the aim of raising its contribution to the GDP from 3% to over 10% and creating one million jobs in tourism.

At the heart of this initiative is the Nusuk platform, which is working to enhance religious and cultural awareness among children by introducing them to the rituals of Hajj and Umrah.

This initiative not only provides an educational experience but also offers entertainment, making the religious journey a spiritually enriching and enjoyable event for children.

What is Umrah for Children?

Traditionally, the Umrah experience has centered around performing religious rituals and visiting key religious sites.

However, the “Umrah for Children” program, spearheaded by the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA), introduces a broader range of activities, ensuring that children have an enriching, educational, and entertaining experience.

The program includes visits to cultural and historical neighborhoods in Makkah, such as the Hira Cultural District and the Clock Museum, in addition to excursions to museums in nearby cities like Jeddah, Madinah, Taif and Al-Ula.

Designed for children of various age groups, the program offers unique facilities such as nurseries and childcare centers around the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.

It also simplifies travel logistics for families, offering family-friendly visa packages and special flight arrangements.

By doing so, the program aims to enhance children’s spiritual connection to their faith while providing them with a deeper understanding of Islamic customs and traditions.

Why Launch a Children’s Umrah Program?

The “Umrah for Children” initiative was born out of several key considerations:

• Family Convenience: Many families are hesitant to perform Umrah with their children due to logistical challenges. The program addresses this by offering tailored services and facilities for families.

• Identity and Cultural Awareness: The program helps children, especially those from Muslim families living abroad, to connect with their Islamic identity and culture. For many, this experience serves as a vital step in strengthening their faith.

• Cultural Tourism: By combining religious pilgrimage with cultural and heritage tourism, the initiative aims to attract more pilgrims to explore Saudi Arabia’s rich cultural landscape, thereby supporting the nation’s broader tourism goals.

The Role of Nusuk in Umrah for Children

Nusuk, a unified government platform, plays a critical role in this initiative.

It facilitates the Umrah journey by offering a range of digital services, making the experience smoother and more accessible for pilgrims from all over the world.

The platform also enables families to secure visas quickly and provides tailored packages for Umrah performers and their children.

In addition, Nusuk’s integration with private sector service providers ensures that families receive high-quality accommodations, transport, and logistical support during their pilgrimage.

Mossaab Hashem, Vice President of the Umrah Program at STA, highlighted during a recent roundtable that the Nusuk platform is pivotal in realizing the Kingdom’s goal of reaching 30 million pilgrims by 2030.

The platform offers extensive services in 10 languages, and through its e-visa service, pilgrims from 66 countries, including Malaysia, can apply for a visa in just a few minutes.

Conclusion: A Spiritual and Educational Experience for the Future Generation

The “Umrah for Children” initiative is more than just a religious pilgrimage; it is an opportunity for children to engage with their faith and cultural heritage in a meaningful way.

Through Nusuk, Saudi Arabia has crafted a program that merges religious duties with cultural tourism, ensuring that children not only perform Umrah but also experience the beauty and richness of the Kingdom’s historical and cultural landmarks.

This initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s vision of modernizing its tourism sector while honoring its religious and cultural traditions.

It symbolizes the Kingdom’s commitment to making Umrah a more inclusive and transformative experience, both for adults and for future generations of Muslim children around the world.

With such progressive initiatives, Saudi Arabia is setting a global precedent in blending faith, culture, and education into a holistic experience for all visitors.
