Two Suspects in Axe-Wielding Robbery Remanded for Seven Days
GEORGETOWN: Two friends have been remanded for seven days to assist in investigations into an armed robbery involving an axe that left the owner of a watch repair shop on Jalan Anson here injured.
The remand order against the two men was issued by Magistrate Nadratun Naim Mohd Saidi, effective today, to facilitate investigations under Section 394 of the Penal Code.
Earlier, the two suspects, aged 42 and 43, arrived at the court at 8.50am.
In the incident yesterday afternoon, the two suspects arrived at the shop in a car before one of them entered the premises.
The suspect, armed with an axe, then ordered the victim’s wife to hand over money, but the 59-year-old victim attempted to stop him.
A struggle ensued, injuring the victim’s right hand and prompting the suspect to flee in a white Volkswagen driven by his accomplice.
The injured victim was reported to be in stable condition after receiving treatment.
Acting on information, police later arrested both suspects at 12.20am today at a residential area in Straits Quay here.
