Two police officers were charged in court today for alleged involvement in corruption cases.

The officers, whose identities were not disclosed, are accused of receiving bribes in exchange for certain favors, including protecting illegal activities and providing sensitive information to certain individuals.

According to the charge sheet, the incidents took place at various locations over the past year, involving sums of money ranging from RM5,000 to RM50,000. The bribes were allegedly accepted to prevent legal actions against certain parties.

The two accused were charged under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of no less than five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

The prosecution, led by an MACC officer, requested bail of RM50,000 for each accused with one surety, along with additional conditions requiring the accused to surrender their passports and report to the nearest MACC office monthly.

The defense lawyer requested lower bail, citing financial constraints and the officers’ cooperation during the investigation.

The court set bail at RM30,000 each with similar conditions and scheduled the case mention for next month. The judge emphasized the seriousness of corruption cases and urged for a speedy trial to ensure justice.
