Turkey condemns Israeli strikes on Iran as regional tensions escalate

Ankara/Tehran, June 13, 2025 – Turkey has strongly condemned Israel’s pre-dawn airstrikes on Iran’s capital, Tehran, calling the attack “provocative” and a “flagrant violation of international law.” The strikes, which targeted high-level military and nuclear sites, have further heightened tensions across the Middle East, with fears of broader regional conflict mounting.

In a statement released by Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reported by state broadcaster TRT Global, Ankara denounced the attack in the strongest terms, warning that such aggressive actions threaten regional peace and stability.

“This attack proves that Israel is not interested in resolving disputes through diplomatic means,” the Turkish ministry said. It further called on Israel to “immediately cease actions that risk dragging the region into a wider conflict.”

Regional Fallout and Iranian Retaliation

The airstrikes on Tehran—codenamed “Operation Rising Lion” by Israel—have already triggered intense reactions from Iran. The Iranian Armed Forces’ General Staff declared that Israel has now “crossed all red lines” and vowed that Tehran’s response would “know no limits.”

In what appears to be a direct retaliatory measure, Tehran reportedly launched around 100 offensive drones toward Israeli targets. Israeli officials have claimed that all incoming drones were intercepted and neutralized by their air defense systems.

Despite the defense’s success, Israel has moved to bolster national security, placing key cities under high alert amid fears of further attacks. Israel has implemented nationwide airspace restrictions, shelter protocols, and emergency warnings.

Broader International Concern

Saudi Arabia and several other nations have also voiced concern over the strike, warning of the destabilizing consequences of such military escalations. Analysts warn that with both Iran and Israel exchanging fire and issuing threats, the region could spiral into a full-blown war.

Turkey’s reaction reflects growing anxiety in neighboring countries, many of whom have been urging restraint amid rising hostilities. “All sides must act responsibly and prioritize peace,” the Turkish statement concluded.

As the situation continues to evolve rapidly, global powers are closely monitoring developments, fearing that further retaliation from either side could ignite a much larger and uncontrollable regional conflict.
