BUSAN, South Korea, Oct 30 : US President Donald Trump said that a long-awaited trade deal with China could be signed on Thursday, as he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.
Speaking ahead of their meeting, Trump expressed optimism about the outcome, saying he expected “a successful discussion” that could lead to a breakthrough in bilateral trade relations.
“I think we’re very close. President Xi is a very tough negotiator, but I believe both sides want this deal done,” Trump told reporters in Busan.
The meeting marks a significant step toward easing tensions between Washington and Beijing, following months of negotiations over trade tariffs, technology access, and market regulations.
Chinese President Xi also expressed hope that the talks would “produce positive results” and strengthen cooperation between the world’s two largest economies.
If finalized, the deal would represent one of the most substantial trade agreements between the United States and China in recent years, potentially stabilizing global markets and signaling a thaw in US-China relations.
