Thunderstorms, heavy rains are forecast for storms in 8 states

KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are forecast to hit eight states including all of Perlis and Penang until 4pm this afternoon.

In addition, he said, heavy rain and thunderstorms are also expected to hit the Alor Gajah and Jasin areas in Melaka in addition to Segamat and Kluang in Johor and Sarawak (Limbang).

“A warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with an intensity of rain exceeding 20 millimeters (mm) per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than an hour.

“Thunderstorm warnings are short-term warnings valid for a period of no more than six hours for a single issue,” he said.
