KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rain in the Federal Territory of Labuan and five other states until 11 am today.
METMalaysia, in a statement, informed that the affected states are Penang, involving the districts of Barat Daya, Timur Laut, Seberang Perai Tengah and Seberang Perai Selatan; while in Perak, it involves Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak.
In Selangor, the warning involves the Sabak Bernam area, while in Johor it covers the areas of Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru.
In addition to Labuan, the warning for Sabah involves the areas of Pedalaman (Kuala Penyu and Beaufort), Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud), Tawau (Tawau and Semporna) as well as Kudat.
The warning is issued when there are signs indicating thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 mm/hour that are approaching or expected to occur for more than one hour.
The thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for each issuance.
