BAGAN DATUK: The police need to be provided with advanced equipment in line with the rapid development of technology, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi.

Bernama reported, he said, the security forces need to have various advantages in efforts to combat crime when criminals use the latest technology that changes rapidly to carry out their activities.

“In this case the use of AI (artificial intelligence) for example, and IOT (Internet of Things) are among the important elements that should be given to the police,” he said.

The Bagan Datuk Member of Parliament said this at a press conference after launching the operation of Bagan Datuk IPD in Hutan Melintang today.

Meanwhile, Perak Police Chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri in his welcoming speech said that IPD Bagan Datuk unofficially started operating on March 16 with a strength of 267 personnel.

He said that Melintang Forest Police Station was chosen to be the temporary operational center of IPD Bagan Datuk when looking at the suitability of the police station complex which was completed in 2012.

“The allocation of RM2 million for the acquisition of 10 acres of land for the construction site of the new Bagan Datuk IPD Complex has been approved under ‘Rolling Plan 4’, RMK12 (12th Malaysia Plan).

“The police have also submitted an application for the construction cost estimated at RM200 million under ‘Rolling Plan 5,'” he said.

IPD Bagan Datuk was the 16th IPD for the Perak police force, he said.
