KUALA LUMPUR: The Auditor General’s Report 2/2024 is expected to be debated in the Dewan Rakyat.
Berita Harian reports, Based on the Rules of Procedure of the Meeting (AUM) and the Motions published on the Parliament’s website, the motion to debate LKAN 2/2024 will be presented by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) after the Drug Addiction Bill (RUU) Treatment and Rehabilitation) (Amendment) 2024 is decided.
The AUM stated that LKAN should be debated in detail in the Dewan Rakyat so that deep attention and observation by all parties can be given to support the government’s desire to create better public sector governance, in addition to scrutiny only at the level of the National Accounts Committee (PAC). .
“It can at once give a clear signal to the entire government administration machinery of its determination to fight fraud and misbehavior and uphold superior governance as recommended by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim).
“This noble effort is also in line with the initiative to transform the Dewan Rakyat, which acts as a ‘check and balance’ for executive power,” he said.
LKAN 2/24 presented in the Dewan Rakyat last Thursday reported nine audits involving 11 ministries with a total audited cost of RM41.97 billion.
It involves auditing the activities of Federal Government ministries or departments as well as Federal statutory bodies, and the scope of the audit covers projects implemented during the Ninth Malaysia Plan (RMK9) to RMK12.
Several weaknesses in implementation stemming from various factors, such as lack of monitoring or supervision by relevant parties, lack of coordination between the relevant agencies, lack of a complete database and weaknesses in policies and work procedures are mentioned in the report.
In addition, a total of nine bills will be presented for the first reading tomorrow, with eight of them by the Minister in JPM.
The bills in question are the Child Witness Evidence (Amendment) Bill 2024, the Evidence (Amendment) Bill 2024, the Oath and Pledge (Amendment) Bill 2024, the Child Sexual Offenses (Amendment) Bill 2024 and the Armed Forces (Amendment) Bill 2024 .
In addition, the Security Offenses (Special Measures) (Amendment) Bill 2024, the Penal Code (Amendment) Bill 2024 and the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Bill 2024, as well as the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency Bill 2024 by the Home Minister.
Also in focus at the Dewan Rakyat conference is the Prime Minister’s Question Time session which will be answered by Anwar.
The question raised was about Malaysia’s policy and direction following its desire to join BRICS and how that participation will help the country’s economic development, particularly in increasing the potential of local exports to BRICS countries by Ipoh Timor Member of Parliament, Lee Chuan How.
In addition, Pendang Member of Parliament, Datuk Awang Hashim’s question regarding the government’s focus on corruption prevention, improving governance and administrative integrity of public services and government-related companies (GLCs) in line with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2024-2028 as well as the implementation of institutional reforms so that The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) can function fairly, transparently and free from executive interference.
