KUALA LUMPUR: Acting Sultan of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail disputed the decision of the Malaysian Football League (MFL) to lighten the punishment on Selangor after inviting the wrath of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, recently.

Berita Harian reported, according to Tunku Mahkota Ismail, the action of ‘dragging’ the Sultan into football problems is seen to cause concern and be followed by troubled teams to solve the issues facing them in an easy way.

“After this, any club that does not pay salaries, withdraw at will, violate the league’s laws, tell the Sultan to write a letter of anger, it’s easy.

“The teams of each state that did wrong can ask the MFL to withdraw the punishment by requesting the favor of Tuanku Sultan each to issue a letter. After this, the other Tuanku Sultan will also ask, why Selangor can have the punishment reduced and our state cannot?,” Tunku wrote. Mahkota Ismail who is also the owner of Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) on his Facebook account.

Earlier, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah expressed his disappointment and deep sorrow with the decision of MFL members and members of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), especially FAM President Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin regarding the case of Selangor FC not attending the Sumbangsih match, last May 10.

In a statement, His Majesty was also surprised because Hamidin did not speak seriously even though he was previously the Secretary General of the Selangor Football Association (FAS) from 1995 to 2013 and experienced in the Selangor football arena as well as a recipient of Dato’ Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s honor. (D.S.I.S.) from His Majesty.

His Majesty who is also the Patron of FAS also expressed the view that the punishment handed down which is a fine of RM100,000, compensation payment for the loss borne by the host and MFL, deduction of three points and the punishment of playing the match (LS14) without spectators is absurd and extremely excessive considering that the victory is already given to the opposing team.

“JDT from 2013 was fined hundreds of thousands, I was ‘banned’ for 6 months, not even Tuanku Sultan Johor issued a letter or made a statement. Bringing up the story of giving a medal to the Datuk. MFL made a ‘U-Turn’ without an appeal letter.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the true Temple of Malaysian football,” wrote Tunku Mahkota Ismail.
