SHAH ALAM: Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has expressed deep sorrow and disappointment over the flare-burning incident at the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge on Sunday, which allegedly involved supporters of Selangor FC.

As the Royal Patron of Selangor FC, the Sultan firmly rejected elements of hooliganism and gangster-style behavior among local football fans, particularly those associated with the Selangor club.

In a statement released by Istana Alam Shah on Tuesday, the Sultan called on the police to identify those responsible for the incident and stressed that, if found guilty, the perpetrators should face the maximum punishment allowed under the law as a deterrent to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The Sultan also urged all Selangor FC supporters to exercise self-control, behave responsibly, and uphold the good name of both the football team and the state of Selangor.

Additionally, Sultan Sharafuddin suggested that supporters who are convicted of causing disturbances should be banned from entering stadiums for any matches involving Selangor FC.

The statement followed police action taken against football fans after the incident. On Monday, 33 Selangor FC supporters were remanded to assist investigations into the disturbance at the drawbridge.

The incident occurred at around 6:30pm, prior to the Malaysia Super League match between Terengganu FC and Selangor FC at Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Kuala Nerus on Sunday night.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the 33 individuals were among approximately 400 supporters detained and brought to the Kuala Terengganu district police headquarters for urine screening as part of the investigation.
