Seven Police Stations Fail Daily Drug Arrest KPI, Two Station Chiefs Issued Warning Letters – Kelantan Police

KOTA BHARU: Seven of the 56 police stations in Kelantan have failed to meet the target of arresting at least one drug user a day, while two station chiefs have been issued warning letters for failing to meet the key performance indicator (KPI).

Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the force would not allow any police station that failed to make a drug-related arrest within a week to go without follow-up action.

He said a task force from the Kelantan Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) would be deployed to the area under the station’s jurisdiction if no arrests were recorded during that period.

“Any station that fails to achieve the target of one case a day will be monitored. We will ensure that a team from the IPK is deployed to the area concerned.

“If the IPK team manages to make an arrest, action will be taken against the station chief. It means the station is not doing its job if the IPK can make arrests there,” he said at a press conference after officiating the Kelantan Police Contingent Headquarters’ monthly assembly here on Tuesday.

Mohd Yusoff said about seven police stations in three districts had so far been identified as having recorded no arrests within a one-week period.

“The reasons given include difficulty finding suspects, suspects having fled and so on. Those are the reasons they give.

“For now, that is fine. They can provide their reasons, but the task force from here (IPK) will be deployed to the areas concerned. If arrests are made, the station chief will face action,” he said.

He stressed, however, that such circumstances could not be used as an excuse for a police station to fail to meet the target set.

Commenting on action against station chiefs who failed to achieve the target, he said two station chiefs had so far been issued warning letters as an initial measure.

“I am not that harsh. I give them a warning first. I send them a warning letter first.

“After that, further action will be taken,” he said.

Mohd Yusoff said the station chiefs concerned were also given time to improve their performance and meet the stipulated KPI.

“For example, if the target is one person a day, there must be seven arrests within a week.

“If there are none today, they have to make sure there are two tomorrow. They owe me one. You cannot have no arrests today, none tomorrow and none again the day after,” he said.

He said the performance of each police station would continue to be monitored through statistics presented at weekly meetings.

He added that some police stations had also recorded arrests exceeding the stipulated KPI.

“We are currently conducting weekly monitoring. Next month, after the three-month pilot period, we will conduct a post-mortem review.

“We will call in all station chiefs and identify those who failed to meet the target, as well as the causes and reasons behind it,” he said.
