Selangor Offers Three-Month Moratorium To Ease Cost Of Living Pressure
SHAH ALAM – The Selangor government is offering a three-month moratorium to more than 3,300 tenants and home loan borrowers under state government schemes as a measure to help the people cope with the pressure of rising living costs following the global supply crisis.
Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the assistance involves tenants of the Selangor Smart Sewa Programme as well as state civil servants who are currently repaying housing loans from the state government.
According to him, 1,012 Smart Sewa tenants will be offered a moratorium on rental payments starting from October to December 2026.
“The state government understands the situation that tenants may face if the cost of living increases in the coming months,” he said when tabling Phase 2 of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package at the Special Sitting of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here on Friday.
Amirudin said the moratorium would be coordinated by the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) based on applications submitted by tenants, with an allocation of RM2.22 million provided for that purpose.
According to him, the current monthly rental rates under the Smart Sewa programme range between RM450 and RM1,300 per month, and the state government will ensure that the rates remain without any increase.
In addition to Smart Sewa tenants, he said the state government is also offering a moratorium on housing loan repayments to 2,333 state civil servants who received financing under the State Government Housing Loan Scheme.
“To assist civil servants who are currently repaying their housing loan debts, this administration will offer a moratorium on housing loan repayments for a period of three months starting from October to December 2026.
“The state government has allocated RM2.54 million to implement this initiative,” he said.
He said both measures are part of Phase 2 of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package announced to help the people and the state’s economy face economic uncertainty following the disruption in the global supply chain.
Overall, the state government has allocated RM209.26 million for the implementation of Phase 2, bringing the total allocation for Phase 1 and Phase 2 to RM355.06 million.
