School Administration Building, Storeroom Destroyed in Fire
KOTA MARUDU: A school building housing the teachers’ room, general office and storeroom was destroyed in a fire at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Langkon here on Saturday evening.
Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Station Chief Debli Mamoi said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 6.53 pm.
He said 11 firefighters were dispatched to the scene, located about 10 kilometres from the Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Station.
“Firefighting operations began using water supplies from the fire engine and water tank,” he said in a statement issued shortly after midnight on Sunday.
He added that firefighters successfully prevented the flames from spreading to nearby buildings.
“Further inspections confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported.
“Firefighting operations were completed at approximately 10.37 pm. The operation was officially concluded after ensuring there were no other hazards at the scene,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sabah State Education Director Abidin Marjan said the fire only affected the school’s administration block.
“Only the administration block and teachers’ room were affected by the fire, while the classrooms were not involved.
“School sessions will continue as usual tomorrow,” he said.
