Sarawak State Assembly Expected to Be Dissolved in November After State Budget – Abdul Karim
KUCHING: The Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) is expected to be dissolved this November, possibly two weeks after the Sarawak Budget 2027 is approved.
Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the budget would be tabled during the upcoming state assembly sitting.
He said the state government would also not allow the Sarawak State Assembly to dissolve automatically in February 2027 when its mandate expires.
“It is very rare for a Menteri Besar, Chief Minister or, in Sarawak’s context, the Premier, to allow the state assembly to dissolve automatically. Usually, they will seek its dissolution.
“So, as we are now in October, followed by November and December… with only a few months remaining, we will need to hold an election soon.
“The date (of dissolution) could be any time in November, either after the Sarawak Budget or perhaps two weeks later,” he told reporters at the Sarawak Women of Tomorrow (SWOT) 2026 programme here yesterday.
According to media reports, the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly sitting is scheduled to take place from Oct 12 to 21.
