Russia Downs Three Drones Targeting Moscow, Airports Temporarily Suspended

MOSCOW, June 7 — Russian air defense systems intercepted and shot down three drones attempting to target Moscow early Friday, according to a statement by the city’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin.

In a brief update shared on social media, Sobyanin confirmed that emergency services had been deployed to the areas where debris from the intercepted drones had fallen. No immediate reports of casualties or significant damage were issued.

“All relevant services are working at the scene,” the mayor said, without disclosing further details about the origin or intended targets of the drones.

As a precaution, Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency temporarily suspended operations at two major airports in the Moscow region — Domodedovo and Zhukovsky—to ensure the safety of air traffic. Normal operations have since resumed, officials confirmed.

The incident comes amid heightened security concerns in Russia, as drone incursions have become more frequent recently.

Authorities have yet to attribute responsibility for the attempted attack.
