Roundtable With 21 Leading Chinese Firms Explores Potential in AI, Robotics – Anwar

SHANGHAI: A roundtable discussion between the Malaysian delegation and industry leaders from 21 leading Chinese companies here today covered various high-impact sectors, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the discussion was also in line with Malaysia’s efforts to explore high-value strategic investments for the country.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the session, which he chaired, also explored potential opportunities in electric vehicles (EVs), battery materials, advanced optics, biotechnology, healthcare, specialty chemicals and advanced manufacturing.

“The MADANI Government will continue to facilitate quality investments that bring technology transfer, local talent development, stronger participation by Malaysian companies and the creation of more high-quality job opportunities,” he said in a post on X following the discussion.

During the session, Anwar also highlighted Malaysia’s strong foundations for continued growth as a high-value investment and manufacturing hub in the region, supported by a mature industrial ecosystem, skilled workforce, strategic location and robust supply chain network.

Also participating in the roundtable were Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, with bilateral trade reaching US$113.82 billion (RM456.68 billion) from January to August this year.

The Prime Minister arrived here on Tuesday for a three-day working visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou.
