RM481 million allocated for the Damansara River Flood Mitigation Project approved, stated Ramanan
SUNGAI BULOH: An allocation of RM481 million for the Damansara River Flood Mitigation Project has been approved to reduce flood risks in the Sungai Buloh parliamentary area.
According to Bernama, Sungai Buloh Member of Parliament Datuk Seri R. Ramanan stated that the project is currently in its initial phase, with the tender already closed and letters of award issued to the contractors.
“Although the project has not yet begun, activities at the Subang River have commenced with an allocation of RM16 million.
“No Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) has ever approved a project of this magnitude for Sungai Buloh. I am very grateful to the Prime Minister,” he told reporters after officiating the Education Incentive Presentation Ceremony for the Sungai Buloh parliamentary area today.
Ramanan, who is also the Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, mentioned that there is another initiative to reduce flood risks, namely the Sungai Buloh Flood Mitigation Project for Phase Two, with an estimated cost of nearly RM780 million, which is still in the proposal stage.
He emphasized that the government is working to reduce flood risks nationwide, including in the Sungai Buloh parliamentary area, through various measures implemented in phases.
Commenting on the flash flood situation in several areas within the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency, Ramanan said the current situation is under control, and the relevant Parliamentary Service Team, through the First Response Team (FRT) unit, has actively assisted affected victims.
“I am very grateful to the FRT unit for prioritizing assistance to victims, especially those who are disabled, the elderly, single mothers, and families with many children, even though their own homes were affected by the floods,” he said.
Ramanan also mentioned that, in collaboration with the Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM) and its CEO Rusli Jaafar, they will provide assistance to flood victims in several affected locations today to alleviate their burdens.
Previously, several areas around Sungai Buloh were reported to have experienced flash floods due to heavy rain last Thursday, including Paya Jaras, Kampung Melayu Subang, and Merbau Sempak.
Regarding today’s event, Ramanan noted that the Bank Rakyat Foundation (YBR) has provided educational assistance allocations to schools and students in the Paya Jaras area to improve educational quality throughout the school session and academic semester of Higher Education Institutions (IPT).
A total of seven national secondary schools (SMK) received sponsorship for the People’s Tuition program amounting to RM70,000, while eight national primary schools (SK) received school assistance totaling RM40,000, in addition to RM50,000 in school aid for 500 students.
Also presented was initial educational assistance to 51 IPT students through the YBR Education Incentive Delivery Program in collaboration with the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP).
