Ramlan Harun, the new chairman of Election Commission

KUALA LUMPUR: Effective from today, Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun has been named as the new chairman of the Election Commission (EC).

In line with Article 114(1) of the Federal Constitution, the appointment was approved by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, according to a statement released today by the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

After leading the EC for four years, Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh announced his retirement on May 10. On May 9, his mandatory retirement became operative.

August 2020 marked the beginning of Abdul Ghani’s tenure. -Bernama
