Raja Muda of Perlis Receives Honorary Doctorate and Top Muhammadiyah Award in Indonesia

MEDAN, Sept 26 (VoM): The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, was conferred an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) by the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra (UMSU) on Friday, in recognition of his contributions to education, da’wah, and international cooperation.

The doctorate was presented by UMSU rector Prof. Dr. Agussani during the Honorary Doctorate and Award Conferment Ceremony, organized by the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership.

In addition, His Royal Highness received the Muhammadiyah Highest Star Award (International Muhammadiyah Enduring Partner Award) from Muhammadiyah’s Central Leadership, presented by its General Chairman, Prof. Dr. H. Haedar Nashir.

Both awards honor Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra’s significant role in strengthening educational development, promoting community cooperation, and fostering international brotherhood.

In his acceptance speech, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra expressed deep gratitude, describing the awards as collective recognition for Perlis’ institutions working tirelessly in education and human development.

“This honorary doctorate is a great honour. I realise it is not just for myself,” he said.
“This recognition also belongs to institutions in Perlis, including the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (UniSIRAJ), Yayasan Tuanku Syed Putra, Yayasan Tuanku Fauziah, the Faizuddin Centre of Educational Excellence (FCoEE), and many others.”

Also present at the ceremony were the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Hajah Dr. Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil; Perlis Chief Minister Mohd Shukri Ramli; and FCoEE chairman Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr. Kamarudin Hussin.

His Royal Highness also congratulated UMSU on being ranked the world’s best Islamic university by 4ICU UniRank 2025 and encouraged the institution to continue advancing its excellence.

He further emphasized that education is the foundation of civilization and that universities carry the responsibility of producing knowledgeable and ethical generations.

The awards ceremony was part of the three-day FCoEE-MAIPs Knowledge Expedition program, which began on Sept 25 in Medan.
