KUALA LUMPUR: This year’s National Day celebration sees Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) operating 24-hour public transport services starting from the night of August 30 until the dawn of August 31, said Government spokesman, Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.

“Prasarana is already committed to providing 24-hour public transport services in conjunction with National Day 2026.

“We hope this will not only help more people come to Putrajaya, but also facilitate the return journey after the program ends,” he said.

Fahmi, who was commenting on the public’s persistent demand for better connectivity facilities to Putrajaya throughout the annual celebration, during a press conference after officiating the Jalur Gemilang Expression Event JAPEN@Petronas at Petronas NPE Pantai Dalam here.

Regarding the Malaysia Day celebration, Fahmi confirmed that the event will be held at the Borneo Cultural Centre in Kuching, Sarawak — a location which he described as comparable in scale to the PICCA Convention Centre in Penang which hosted last year’s celebration.

He said, the next planning meeting is scheduled for August 24, while adding that preparations are running smoothly following the preliminary committee meeting last week.

Meanwhile, Fahmi informed that this year’s distribution of the Jalur Gemilang features an improved magnet-based design to allow it to be attached and removed from vehicles, thus fulfilling feedback from previous years where vehicle users preferred a non-permanent option.

“Based on previous feedback, they prefer using magnets compared to stickers that stick directly onto the vehicle. So, this is the improvement we are making this year,” he said.

Fahmi also urged RTM, radio stations and television broadcasters to play the official national month theme song — ‘Aku Berjanji’ by Faizal Tahir — more frequently.
