Police Launch Manhunt After Teen Student Injured in Penampang Incident

KOTA KINABALU: Police have launched a manhunt for a suspect believed to be involved in an incident that left a teenage girl injured in Kg Nosoob, Penampang, near Kota Kinabalu.

Penampang district police chief Supt Sammy Newton confirmed on Thursday (May 7) that officers are currently at the scene carrying out investigations, with forensic teams from the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters also deployed to assist.

“Police teams are on-site conducting further investigations, including forensic analysis,” he said.

The victim, a secondary school student, has been taken to hospital for treatment. Authorities have not disclosed the exact nature of her injuries.

Police are urging members of the public to come forward with any relevant information that could assist in identifying the suspect.

Supt Sammy also advised the public to avoid spreading unverified claims or speculation about the incident while investigations are ongoing.

The case gained public attention after circulating on social media on Thursday, with some online users alleging that the victim sustained a neck injury caused by a sharp object. Police have not confirmed these details.

Investigations are continuing.
